Any share plan can be used for all your employees - but there are some specific share plans that are designed for all employees and bring with them tax advantages both for the company and the employees, and sometimes the shareholders themselves.

The Save As You Earn Share Option Plan has proved one of the most popular UK share plans around and is used by the majority of the FTSE 100. Employees can save tax efficiently to exercise options which are themselves free of income tax. Costs for the company may also be tax deductible if structured correctly.

The new Share Incentive Plan allows you to allocate free shares to your employees and for the first time, allows you to allocate these shares conditional upon performance targets. Alternatively (or in addition) you can allow your employees to purchase shares from their pre-tax salary and where they do so, you can give free, "matching" shares. Costs for the Company are tax deductible and shareholders may also be able to fully defer any capital gains tax they may pay on selling shares to the plan.
